Traditional Aleppo soap
Traditional Aleppo soap is considered one of the oldest solid soaps in the world. Made using a traditional method dating back more than 3,000 years, it originated in the city of Aleppo, in northern Syria. This natural soap is renowned for its simple, plant-based, and authentic composition, which relies primarily on two high-quality oils: olive oil and laurel berry oil.
Method for manufacturing Aleppo soap
A true predecessor of Marseille soap, Aleppo soap is now appreciated worldwide for its dermatological properties, its gentleness, and its natural ingredients. It is suitable for the whole family and can be used for both daily cleansing and the care of sensitive skin.
Thanks to its artisanal production and the quality of the oils used, Aleppo soap is an exceptional natural cosmetic that is gentle on the skin and environmentally friendly.
Handcrafted according to the Aleppo tradition
The production of Aleppo soap is based on an ancient hot saponification process, passed down from generation to generation by Syrian master soap makers.
It all begins with the slow heating of olive oil in large cauldrons. This oil forms the base of the soap and gives it its nourishing, moisturizing, and protective properties. Once the saponification process is well underway, laurel berry oil is added to the mixture. This precious oil gives Aleppo soap its purifying, soothing, and antibacterial properties.
After several hours of cooking and mixing, the soap paste is then poured onto the floor into large molds. The artisan soapmakers then smooth the surface before cutting the soap bars by hand. Each bar is traditionally stamped with the soap factory’s seal, guaranteeing its authenticity.
The soap bars are then stored in natural drying rooms, protected from light and moisture. There they cure for at least 9 months, sometimes up to a year. During this drying period, the soap loses much of its water content, becomes harder, and develops its characteristic color: brown on the outside and green on the inside.
This curing period is essential: it ensures a gentle, long-lasting soap that is perfectly balanced for the skin.
The benefits of Aleppo soap for the skin
The benefits of Aleppo soap have been recognized for centuries. Thanks to its natural ingredients and the absence of chemical additives, it is a gentle and versatile product for daily hygiene.
Olive oil: hydration and protection
Rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, olive oil deeply nourishes the skin. It helps maintain the skin’s natural moisture and keeps it supple. It is particularly suitable for dry and sensitive skin.
Laurel Berry Oil: Purification and Balance
Laurel oil is known for its purifying, antiseptic, and soothing properties. It helps regulate excess sebum and helps cleanse the skin. That is why Aleppo soap is often recommended for blemish-prone skin, oily skin, or skin prone to irritation.
Thanks to the synergy of these two plant oils, Aleppo soap can be used:
For facial and body cleansing
As hand soap
For sensitive or reactive skin
As a natural treatment for problem skin
sometimes even as a solid shampoo for hair
Its simple, natural formula makes it a soap that is particularly gentle on the skin, even for the most sensitive skin types.
Authentic expertise preserved
Aleppo soap is much more than just a cosmetic product: it represents a unique artisanal heritage. Its production is based on expertise passed down for centuries by master soap makers in the Aleppo region.
To preserve this tradition, our soap is made in an artisanal soap factory located near Aleppo, in accordance with traditional methods and historic quality standards. This soap factory holds a geographical indication recognized by Syrian Law No. 8, Section 2, dated March 6, 2007, guaranteeing the soap’s origin and authenticity.
Choosing authentic Aleppo soap means supporting ancestral expertise, as well as choosing a natural, sustainable, and skin-friendly product.
